And every gambler knows that to lose
Is what you’re really there for
-U2 Every Breaking Wave
Each time I hear this song I end up thinking about it for days.
Are the lyrics true? Does every gambler know this? Probably. We all do, no matter what our vice happens to be. Why do we want to lose?
I think the reason comes later in the song…
And we know that we fear to win
And so we end before we begin
You might think, “That’s not me. I would love to win.” But, if you are stuck repeating behaviors that do not serve you, it’s worth consideration.
Marianne Williamson writes:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Today’s inspiration: Shine & Trust
How to do it: Trust that when you rise, everyone rises. Read Marianne Williamson’s words again:
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
At the end of Every Breaking Wave, Bono gives us an option:
Are we ready to be swept off our feet
And stop chasing every breaking wave
Let’s take the challenge…Trust yourself & trust life.
Be inspired. Go forth. Create your day.
