Embrace your reflection

Embrace Your Reflection

It inspires me to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., honor his efforts, and all those who came before him and after, who stand up for all to be seen, honored, and free. It’s a beautiful reflection of the collective that this is a federal holiday.

This year, the holiday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. happened to be the same day as the U.S. Presidential Inauguration. The stir of emotion in the air, on all sides, gives us the perfect opportunity to look inside ourselves.

Exercise:

Write down three things that stand out to you about Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.:

Be sure to write your answers before you continue reading!

Okay, if you have finished writing your answers, consider this:

Your answers reflect parts of yourself. Maybe you like them, maybe not. Even if you don’t think this is true, pretend your answers are observations about yourself.

As you go about your day, notice where these things come up, and how they affect your energy, mood, and actions. Just consider.

For example…

  • If you are grateful, you could take a minute to notice all the things you appreciate about yourself.
  • If you are angry, notice where you are angry with yourself.
  • If you don’t care, notice where you are not caring for yourself.
  • If you feel powerless, notice where you are not letting yourself show up as who you are.

When we are conscious of all parts of ourselves, we open ourselves to so much information.

Embrace your reflection! You are beautiful.
