The Night Before

I love that September is the new January.  Any opportunity for a fresh start is good with me.

I was listening to Gretchen Rubin interview Rachel Hollis, who said, “If you own the morning, you own the day.” Right on, Rachel! I propose that owning the morning begins in the evening.

Whether you’re a morning person, or a night owl, the key is to make the most of the beginning and end of each day. Structure your mornings and evenings based on your natural instinct.

Choose the statement that most aligns with you:

A. I am clear and energized in the morning.

B. I have more energy at night.

TWO OPTIONS FOR BOOKENDING YOUR DAY:

#1

    • MORNING: Make a plan for the day
    • EVENING: Review the day and wind down

#2

    • EVENING: Make a plan for the following day
    • MORNING: Take a look at your plan and ease into your day

If you chose statement A above, the first option will probably appeal to you. If B, you might prefer option number two. In both cases, while your plan is important, your review is essential. We all know about “best laid plans…”

Today’s inspiration: Tonight

How to use it: Perhaps you began today with a clear purpose. Awesome! Perhaps you are overwhelmed by the number of goals you have set, and decide you will start tomorrow. Perhaps you’re just trying to get through the first work day after a long weekend.

Whatever the case, make the most of the END of today:

  1. Make a list of everything that went right today.
  2. Write down ONE thing you want to accomplish tomorrow.
  3. Decide how you want tomorrow morning to be.

Then…Tomorrow when you wake up, whether you feel inspired or overwhelmed, look at your list from tonight. Thinking about what went right yesterday will put you in the right mindset for a good day today. Look at the one thing you wanted to accomplish today. Make a plan to get it started. Try for the morning you envisioned last night. If that vision doesn’t fit for you today, change it. Relax and know your day is going to be good. Most importantly, check in again TONIGHT.

Be inspired. Go forth. Create your day.
