Where there’s smoke…
…there’s fire?
…someone is smoking?
…the air is polluted?
Maybe.
All you can say for sure is, Where there’s smoke, there’s smoke.
Today’s inspiration: Be assumption-free
How to do it: Approach every situation as if you have never seen anything like it before. This is the heart of mindfulness.
Examples:
- Your stomach hurts. You regret your overindulgence in Super Bowl snacks. Stick with the present and focus on something nice you can do for your stomach. Drink a glass of water. Go in the sauna at the gym (just the sauna, skip the workout). Eat fresh vegetables.
- You call your friend. It rings once and goes to voice mail, and you are sure she hit Decline. Fact? Not necessarily. Your friend will call you back, so move on with your day and don’t give it another thought.
- You forgot to return a phone call. You know the person is probably annoyed. Skip that thought and focus on the knowledge at hand. You just remembered, right? So call right now or text to schedule a call. Problem solved, no energy wasted.
Remind yourself, “Where there’s smoke, there’s smoke.”
Be inspired. Go forth. Create your day.
“Open the window of your mind. Allow the fresh air, new lights and new truths to enter.” – Amit Ray
“The day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment in the yesterdays.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
