Yes Man

“I know what you’re going to say, but just let me go first.”

Do you ever find yourself saying or thinking this? You are certain that your perspective is essential to the trajectory of the conversation; if it starts off on a different track, the other person isn’t going to understand.

What if something beyond you knows more than either person in the conversation? What if that power could steer you both in the right direction if only you would give it a chance?

I love the movie Yes Man, where Jim Carrey promises to say yes to everything anyone asks him. In the process he gives away his money and gets stranded, only to be rescued by the love of his life. He jeopardizes his job by approving risky small loans and ends up helping people achieve their dreams. In the end, he realizes saying yes to absolutely everything is moronic, but the experience causes a profound shift in his energy. He has been witness to the miracles that happen when you are open and receptive.

Today’s inspiration: What if…

How to use it: When you find yourself thinking a negative thought, shift your perspective to curiosity. What if I let someone else handle this? What if I trust that everything is going to be okay? What if I pause and see what happens?

Example: You’re holding your phone, about to make the call you have been avoiding. You’re rehearsing exactly what you’ll say and anticipating the response. Thoughts swirl through your mind…“She’s going to be upset…he’s not going to understand…I’ll just tell part of the story.” Take a deep breath (remember, I am inflating to my greatest potential. I release what does not serve me. Check out Expand post!) and think, “What if?”

What if I let the other person talk first? What if I set an intention for the outcome of this phone call and let the Universe take care of the rest? What if I trust that no matter how the call goes, it’s progress? At least I will have made the call.

Every answer, every key to the Universe, is inside of you. If you get your thoughts out of the way, you will hear the answers. You will know what to do. Trust yourself.

“Live your life, you won’t regret it.” -Movie: Yes Man (clip! so funny)

Be inspired. Go forth. Create your day.
