Door Slam

When you have a dream, the Universe conspires to help you achieve it. (See Shaq post)

What you need to know about the Universe:

  • The Universe responds to detail.

  • The Universe hears only positives.

  • The Universe will test you to make sure you can handle your wish.

The details…The Universe is literal. Just like with the genie in the lamp, if you are vague about your wish, you may end up with something very different from what you imagined. Be specific. The more detail the better. In You Are A Badass, Jen Sincero goes into great detail about what the Universe hears. (Highly recommend! The audio version is great too, because she reads it, and she is f.u.n.n.y.)

No negatives…Phrase everything in the positive. If you say, “I don’t want to bite my nails,” the Universe hears, “I want to bite my nails.” This is why deprivation diets don’t work. “I don’t want to eat sugar,” is translated into Universe-speak. The Universe replies, “Sugar? Sure, I can do that.” The question is, what DO you want? “I want to eat fresh food. I want my cuticles to look healthy.”

The test…In order to make sure you will be ready to handle the consequences of your request, the Universe will put obstacles in your way. If something disrupts your progress, you may be inclined to curse the sky, “I thought you supported me!” But, if you remember that the Universe always wants what is best for you, you will know it’s putting up roadblocks so you can prove to yourself you can do it. The detour means the Universe hears you.

The inspiration: Door Slam

How to use it: When the door to your dream slams in your face, remember it’s actually an encouraging sign. The Universe is watching, preparing, and guiding you. Maybe that door doesn’t lead to the right place. Maybe you need more preparation before you cross the threshold. Maybe the Universe is just about to grant your wish and wants to make extra sure you’re ready for it. Keep going! You’re almost there! (See Chapter 4 in You Are A Badass)

Example: You have blocked out the entire morning to work on the outline for your new business idea. You sit down at your desk with a cup of coffee and your notepad, and begin. Ten minutes later, the nurse from school calls because your child has a fever and needs to be picked up. You could think, “Yep, I knew this was ridiculous. I will never have time to make this a reality.” OR…You could think, “I’m glad I’m able to easily pick up my child since I have no meetings or appointments.” Most likely your child will fall asleep soon and you can work on that outline. The Universe will hear your message loud and clear, “I’m ready for this!” As you create your plan, the Universe will take notes. Make it so, number one!

Be inspired. Go forth. Create your day.
