Chakra Week – Day 3 – Solar Plexus Chakra

For an intro to the chakra system, check out Monday’s post: Shark Week.

The energy of each chakra is influenced by the chakras located beneath. Monday, we focused on the root chakra—our foundation. Yesterday, we brought in the creativity and flow of the sacral chakra. Now that we are grounded and open to change—it’s time to make it happen. Take that energy and turn it into something physical.

“Keep up and you will be kept up.” – Yogi Bhajan

Today’s inspiration: Solar plexus chakra

Question: What does it mean to “keep up?”

Exploration: The solar plexus chakra is located above your belly button and below your chest, and is associated with the color yellow and the element of fire. When this chakra is out of balance, we have difficulty materializing our dreams. Are you “keeping up?” What does that mean?

Today, drink some lemonade, or squeeze a little lemon juice in your water, or cut a lemon in half and rub the juice on your fingers. Inhale the citrus scent deeply and feel the fire in your belly glow. Think about something you are trying to change or create. Do you keep putting off what you know you need to do? If so, pick one thing (just one!) that will get you closer to that goal, and make it a priority today. Are you working really hard at your goal, but nothing is happening? If so, back off today and think about where you need help or what you could change.

Example: You wake up determined to cross off everything on your to-do list. You put on your yellow shirt, drink your lemon water, and gather all of your energy. You check your voice mail while you check your email and drink your coffee. You remember something you were supposed to do and jump up from your chair, spilling your coffee on your shirt. (Message #1)…

…You dash to your closet to change and pick a non-yellow item of clothing because you only own one. You feel the energy in your solar plexus draining, but you are determined to press on. You return to the kitchen to pack up papers to bring to the office. You accidentally set a contract in a puddle of coffee you missed when you wiped up your spill. (Message #2)…

…You wipe off the papers, stick them in your bag, and head to the garage. You load everything in the car and realize you don’t have your phone. You spend the next ten minutes walking around the house looking for it. (Message #3)…

…At this point, you may conclude the Universe does not want you to complete your to-do list, and consequently give up. “It’s not my day,” you might say to yourself.

Consider an alternative…what else could these messages from the Universe be telling you? Maybe it’s trying to say, “Let me help you. You don’t have to do it by yourself.”

When you insist on being in charge, you leave no room for the Universe to do its magic. Say to yourself, “I release the need to be in control. I release the need to be in control. I release the need to be in control.”

Let the light shine through your solar plexus. It’s already there—there’s nothing to do but let it through.

Sometimes “keeping up” means recognizing you are in your own way, and letting the Universe lend a helping hand.

Be inspired. Go forth. Create your day.
