Week of Time – Tuesday
Yesterday I talked about cultivating a friendship with time. (Time on Your Side) You may be wondering how exactly to do this. Perhaps a mental tea party with time is a little too out there?
Think about when you want time to be there for you.
- Is it at 3:00 a.m. when you are thinking of the millions of things you need to do?
- Is it when you are yelling at the person in front of you because you are late for an appointment?
Consider how you might bring a little more to this relationship. Plan ahead. Consider your goals at the beginning of the day. When you intentionally move through your day, you respect time. Time, in turn, will respect you back.
How many times have you wasted ten minutes in the middle of the day, then remembered after dinner that you needed to make a doctor appointment? Or remembered as you pulled into the driveway after your meeting that you needed apples and just drove past the market? You don’t need a better memory, you just need a strategy!
Today’s inspiration: The TODAY Note
How to use it:
- Start a note in your phone app and put the word TODAY at the top.
- Every time you think of something you want or need to do—today, this week, sometime during your lifetime—add it to the note.
- When you have completed the task, delete it from the note.
- Every morning, look at the note.
- Every time you are mindlessly looking at your phone because you only have a few minutes before your meeting, look at the note.
- Every night look at the note.
- Looking at the note is every bit as important as writing the note!
- If you prefer paper, keep your list in one designated notebook.
- Note: Add enough detail to jog your memory. Just now, I was looking at my Today list for an example to write here, and one item says, “Look for Requiem.” I have no idea what that means. It probably autocorrected something or I have lost my mind. Either is entirely possible.
