Bring Back That Lovin’ Feeling

My friend has lost most of her business due to COVID, and she says it’s one of the best things that has ever happened. Her mortgage has been deferred for three months, and she spends all of her extra time painting. She can hear the birds singing outside because there are no cars.

There is magic everywhere. Believe it and you will see it.

In Wired, Steven Levy wrote that our situation feels like living behind the Iron Curtain. I have to admit, he makes a compelling case, and for a little while after I read his article, no matter where I looked, a black and white movie played over and over in my head. But deep down, I was thinking, “Wait, where are all the things I believe are true? Where is the magic?”

I have said it a million times (as have many others)…

YOUR THOUGHTS CREATE YOUR REALITY

You can also think of this as CONFIRMATION BIAS (def): The tendency to interpret new evidence as confirmation of one’s existing beliefs or theories.

What is real? What is an illusion? Whatever you think, you will create the evidence to support your thoughts.

START WITH GRATITUDE

Gratitude is the gateway drug (in a good way).

“We’re totally one, dude. Everything’s connected. Life’s a frickin’ miracle.”

You don’t have to be on drugs to have these thoughts, you just need gratitude. Because, you know what? We ARE totally one. Everything IS connected. Life IS a frickin’ miracle.

Take Action! Replace every negative thought with a grateful thought. When life feels uncomfortable, instead of getting high, get grateful. It will change your life.

Here’s how thoughts and gratitude work together:

  1. The Universe wants to give you what you desire, and it interprets your focus as this desire.
  2. When you focus on what you are grateful for, the Universe brings more of it to you. The more specific you can be, the better.
    • I’m grateful for the ten minutes my child talked to me. (Replace “My teen doesn’t communicate.”)
    • I’m grateful for the delicious meal my husband made. (Replace “I hate having to cook.”)
    • I’m grateful for my comfortable pants. (Replace “I wish I could get dressed up.”)
    • I’m grateful for the slower pace. (Replace “I wish I could do what I used to do.”)

Gratitude leads to happiness.

“I choose to be free.” –Louise Hay, You Can Heal Your Life

Be inspired. BE GRATEFUL. Go forth. Create your day.
