I hear a lot about how doors are open for some, but not for others. I believe this is true, and I believe we must work as a society to include everyone.
At the same time, I believe we all have gifts that serve a particular purpose. Our gifts are keys that open the exact door we need at the exact time we need it. If there is a closed door you are trying to enter, perhaps you need to try a different key.
Be grateful for your gifts, and grateful for the gifts others possess. I believe we create our reality. When I see a person whom I admire, I think, “I created that—amazing!” And then I wonder why I didn’t give myself the same gifts. Then I remember we are all one, and I know I do have the same gifts. We are all connected.
Today’s inspiration: Keys
How to use it:
- What doors have opened for you throughout your life?
- What gifts do you have that served as the keys to open them?
- What door do you wish would open?
- Make a list of your gifts—one of them holds the key.
Example: At a job interview, you demonstrate the depth of your knowledge with spreadsheets and charts. The person interviewing you is polite, but seems unimpressed. You leave the interview dejected. You’re qualified for this position—maybe even overqualified. You want the job! You want this door to open for you!
Are you using the right key? Maybe this door has two locks. Take stock of your strengths and pick one. Perhaps, in addition to your incredible knowledge, you get along well with people. Pick up the phone and thank the person who interviewed you, if appropriate. Or send an email, or a handwritten card, to say thank you. Explain why you are the best person for this job. You have the ability to open any door. The trick is to find the right key.
And if you have tried all of your keys, and the door still doesn’t open, find one that does. See posts: Door Slam and If You Walk Away.
